violent digital comic banned from iTunes

A comic book app made especially for the iPhone and iPod touch, and sold through the Apple iTunes store, has been banned due to its violent and gory content. The digital comic entitled Murderdrome was created by England-based Al Ewing and Belfast-based Paul J Holden of Infurious Comics. The ‘anning of Murderdrome by Apple prompted a plea from Infurious Comics for some sort of age rating system for the App store. As of now, there is no age rating in place, and the banning of Apps is done so at Apple’s discretion.

On the Infurious Comics blog, the comic-writing duo wrote: “Here at infurious, we would love to work with Apple to ensure a content rating system can be put in place to allow material that is no more offensive than many of the R rated films available to download on iTunes.” Murderdrome has now been put online by Ewing and Holden so that their fans don’t miss out on their latest creation.

Cuban taekwondo athlete banned for life!

A Cuban tae kwon do athlete and his coach were barred for life after the athlete kicked a referee in the face following his disqualification in his bronze medal match. The Cuban coach, Leudis González, offered no apology for the actions of the athlete, Ángel Matos, during the men’s over-80 kilogram (176 pounds) match. Matos was winning, 3-2, in the second round, when he fell to the mat after being hit by his opponent, Kazakhstan’s Arman Chilmanov. He remained there, awaiting medical attention, when he was disqualified for taking too much injury time. Fighters get one minute, and Matos was disqualified when his time ran out. Matos angrily questioned the call, pushed a judge, then pushed and kicked the referee, Chakir Chelbat of Sweden. Matos then spat on the floor and was escorted out. “He was too strict,” González said, referring to the decision to disqualify Matos. Afterward, he charged that the match was fixed, accusing the Kazakhs of offering him money. “This is a strong violation of the spirit of tae kwon do and the Olympic Games,” the World Taekwondo Federation said in a release. It added that there would be a lifetime ban of González and Matos in all championships sanctioned by the organization and that all Matos’s records at the Beijing Games would be erased.

funny monkey commercial!

I’m always envious of people who can communicate with animals, usually monkeys, through hand signal. But sometimes, I get to think ‘what if they are reading what my hands are doing when I’m not really doing any hand signalling?’ The result can be disastrous right? Go watch this video and find out! ;-)

Babyshambles banned from headlining Moonfest festival

Of course, the band’s frontman, Peter Doherty was “absolutely devastated and furious” about it. Officers from Westbury, Wiltshire (where the 3-day Moonfest festival will be held) apparently lodged a ban application at North Wiltshire Magistrates Court and it was approved. They were afraid that their force is not strong enough to contain the 5,000 set to attend. It is believed to be the first court to issue section 160 of the Licensing Act (2003) to stop an act from performing.

Superintendent Paul Williams, of Wiltshire Police, said the application had come following Peter Doherty’s solo performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall which was marred by crowd trouble. He said: “It is very unusual for the Royal Albert Hall to have to request police assistance, which on that occasion they did. He (Doherty) just whipped up the crowd and there was disorder. We are not killjoys and we help organisers with many events throughout the year and some are much larger than this one.”

Chief Superintendent Julian Kirby, on the other hand, said: “We carried out an analysis of what Pete Doherty and his band does … They speed up and then slow down the music and create a whirlpool effect in the crowd. They (the crowd) all get geed up and then they start fighting.” John Green, Moonfest’s organiser, said he was “livid” at the decision while Doherty’s manager Andy Boyd said they will hold a free show to compensate fans.

Iranian actress banned from going to Hollywood

golshifteh farahani

According to Iran’s official news agency, a certain Golshifteh Farahani was at Tehran’s airport on her way to the United States to study a new acting offer in Hollywood when she was banned from leaving her country. IRNA’s report this Wednesday quotes an unnamed official as saying the actress “was banned from traveling” the other day. The official didn’t give a reason for the ban.

Farahani was the first Iranian-based actress since the 1979 Islamic Revolution to appear in a Hollywood film when she landed a role in Ridley Scott’s “Body of Lies.” The movie is set to be released later this year and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe. Iranian artists usually need accreditation from Iran’s Culture Ministry before they can work with foreign agencies.
